CHARLES L. CHATMON
Charles is an author, poet, and a freelance writer.The Depths of My Soul and The Voices of South Central are his current books, both poetry. He also taught in the public and private school systems for years as a teacher's aide and educator while coaching youth basketball and flag football for his local YMCA years ago. Mr. Chatmon also coached a middle school baseball team. He is a co-founder of the California Writers Collective, a network of authors and poets. Charles is also the current executive director of the Los Angeles Black Book Expo. Even more recently, he teaches writers workshops for new and aspiring authors.
In the past, Charles helped out with the Authors Pavilion inside the Leimert Park Village Book Fair, assisted with the Literary Village in the African Marketplace as well as the Literacy Awareness program for Community Day and similar smaller projects across the state. With his partner Michael D. Thomas, they interview authors for Empire Beat Magazine. Charles co-hosts Mixed Matters on North Bay Media Review with the lovely and talented Chandra Adams interviewing up and coming authors in the literary field.
Mr. Chatmon has shared his poetry in events such as the Spoken Word Festival in San Francisco, the African-American Museum and Library in Oakland, African Marketplace (L.A.), L.A. Black Business Expo and other events throughout the state.
Authors N Focus is a website, blog and now as of 2011, a cable television show featuring new and aspiring writers with resources and interviews. Plus, Charles is a contributor for magazines when the time permits.
Recently, Charles has announced his third book, Storm Over South Central will be released later this year. It's a combination of his poetry along with a sampling of his best short stories.
