A Message To
Black Women

For centuries we men have been carried
in belly and on back

by strong Black queens
who’ve gone before
dedication, loyalty
not a lack

allow us men
to stand and rise
proving to you we belong

in the hopes that one day
your love for us
will be repaid
because you make us
oh so strong.

Charles L. Chatmon

Charles L. Chatmon is a native of Los Angeles, California and has been writing since his day in junior high school. Over the years, Charles has written for his high school newspaper, as well as college and community periodicals. He has recited his poetry in venues ranging from coffeehouses to book fairs and expos over the years. In 2001, Charles wrote his first book of poetry, The Depths of My Soul via Milligan Books, and two years later returned with another book of verses entitled The Voices of South Central.

Charles explains his that his writings are from the 'heart of a man', to present a different view on subjects such as love, racism, loneliness and inspiration to assist his fellow man really think what's going on in the world and how things can be improved. Not bad for someone who once read his poems at age 17 in front of a YMCA camp during campfire - and realizing from that point on he was on his way through his journey through life in a literary sense.

Presently, Charles has appeared on a number of internet talk shows such as "On The Same Page" with host Maxine Thompson on Voice America, AdviceRadio.com, and on Global Talk Radio. He has appeared twice on Mixed Matters, a podcast heard only on the North Bay Media Review.com website with host Chandra Adams. In fact, Charles has co-hosted an online radio show with Adams on InternetVoicesRadio.com twice a week for several months now.

For the present, Charles is continuing to produce great works such as his third book of poetry due in mid 2006 called "A Question of Truth; poems from a man's heart" and his first novel, "It's All About Fate" in 2007. He continues freelancing for magazines and newspapers and working on his other creative projects. It seems Mr. Chatmon is here to stay in the literary world.
